HP VoIP Fax Settings

How to Fax over VoIP with HP Fax Machines.

Hewlett Packard or HP Fax machines are some of the most widely used fax machines in the world, so it will be no surprise that thousands of users everyday are seeing faxes sent with their HP fax machines fail when trying to use them over a VoIP Internet line.   VoIP Mechanic has put together the settings that will most likely give you the best chance of success faxing over a VoIP connection for HP machines.  Unfortunately, not every HP fax machine has easy to find settings to make their machines more compatible with VoIP, so we have placed instructions on some of these HP machines here.  By slowing down the Baud rate, or transmission speed to a setting of 9600 and disabling ECM (Error Correction Mode) your success rate will increase significantly.

How to Disable ECM on most HP Fax machines:

These settings should work closely for many HP fax machines, but some newer and some older machines may not have these settings.  The only way to know for sure is to check your particular model.  You may find that you are able to disable ECM (Error Correction Mode) (why this setting is important), which is a setting that will help transmissions over VoIP.  If you happen to discover slight differences, you should look to locate the ECM setting in the Advanced Features Setup menu on most HP fax and All in One machines.

For most HP 7000 model Officejets.
  • Press Setup
  • Press the down arrow until you get to Advanced Fax Setup
  • Then hit OK.
  • Press the down arrow until Error Correction Mode displays.
  • Then hit OK.
  • Press the right arrow until OFF displays.  Then hit OK.
