HP VoIP Fax Settings


How to Fax over VoIP with HP Fax Machines.

Hewlett Packard or HP Fax machines are some of the most widely used fax machines in the world, so it will be no surprise that thousands of users everyday are seeing faxes sent with their HP fax machines fail when trying to use them over a VoIP Internet line.   VoIP Mechanic has put together the settings that will most likely give you the best chance of success faxing over a VoIP connection for HP machines.  Unfortunately, not every HP fax machine has easy to find settings to make their machines more compatible with VoIP, so we have placed instructions on some of these HP machines here.  By slowing down the Baud rate, or transmission speed to a setting of 9600 and disabling ECM (Error Correction Mode) your success rate will increase significantly. 

How to Disable ECM on most HP Fax machines:

lady_stand_101708These settings should work closely for many HP fax machines, but some newer and some older machines may not have these settings.  The only way to know for sure is to check your particular model.  You may find that you are able to disable ECM (Error Correction Mode) (why this setting is important), which is a setting that will help transmissions over VoIP.  If you happen to discover slight differences, you should look to locate the ECM setting in the Advanced Features Setup menu on most HP fax and All in One machines.

 

For most HP 7000 model Officejets.
  • Press Setup
  • Press the down arrow until you get to Advanced Fax Setup
  • Then hit OK.
  • Press the down arrow until Error Correction Mode displays. 
  • Then hit OK.
  • Press the right arrow until OFF displays.  Then hit OK.

For most HP 2000, 4100, 5000, 6000 & 6100 model Officejets.

  • From the Front Panel Press Menu.
  • Hit the Right Arrow until you get Advanced Fax Setup.  Then hit Enter.
  • Hit the Right Arrow until you get Error Correction Mode.  Then hit Enter.
  • Hit the Right Arrow for Error Correction Mode Off.  Hit Enter.

How to Disable ECM HP Officejet 7300/7400 series all-in-one

  • Press Setup.
  • Press 5, and then press 6.  (This will display the Advanced Fax Setup Menu and then selects Error Correction Mode.)
  • Press the Down Arrow to enable the Off (or ON) Option.
  • Press OK.

** Pease Note:  Turning off ECM on these models by completing the above settings only applies to outbound faxes.  If the speed of the Fax is not adjusted to Slow or Medium and the fax is left at the default fast speed, it will automatically send the fax with ECM on regardless of the above settings.  For lowering the BAUD rate on HP Officejet 7300/7400.

How to Disable ECM on the HP 3180/3100 series fax machines.

  • Press the Fax Menu Button.
  • Press Fax Menu repeatedly to scroll through the options in the Fax Menu.
  • Press Setup the select Advanced Fax Setup and then select Error Correction Mode.
  • Press to select Off.  Press OK.

** Note: Disabling ECM on the HP 3100 series machines will automatically reduce the Baud speed to 14,400 (v.17).

How to reduce the Baud rate to 9600 on the HP 3180/3100 series fax.
 

  • Press the Fax Menu Button.
  • Press Fax Menu repeatedly to scroll through the options in the Fax Menu.
  • Press Setup the select Advanced Fax Setup and then press Fax Speed.
  • Using the arrow keys select the option Slow (9600) , and then press OK.

How to reduce the Baud rate on the HP M2727 MFP series fax.
 

  • Press Setup.
  • Press and Hold the Right Arrow then Press Cancel.
  • Press Setup again until Developers Menu displays, then press OK.
  • Select R/W Parameters by using the Right Arrow, then press OK.
  • Enter 153 on the keypad (you should see T30XMIT), then press Enter.
  • Using the keypad Press 16 then Press Enter.

 

Lowering the Baud rate on an HP4110

You can set the Baud rate by following these steps:

  • Press the * and # keys at the same time.
  • Press 1, then 2, then 3.  (Release each key before pressing the next.)
  • Service should now display, press the right arrow button until R/W parameters appears.  Then press Enter.
  • You should see parameter 0.  Press 2, then Enter.
  • Next press Cancel repeatedly until you exit the service menu.

How to lower the Baud rate on HP Officejet 9100 All-in-One Series

  • Press and hold the * key for 3 to 5 seconds until the display screen reads Test -001+
  • Enter in 620 on the key board and press the Check Mark so the screen will read Cfg param id:.
  • Enter the parameter 159 for the Receiving Baud Rate on the key board then press the Check Mark so that Cfg param val: 26 displays.
  • The screen will read Cfg param val: 26.
  • Enter in the value 6 which equals 9600 (V.29) and then press the Check Mark.
  • The screen will read Test -001+
  • Press the Reset button until you get back to Ready*.
  • Repeat the settings entering parameter 153 for the Transmitting Fax baud rate.
     

*Note:  The following values represent the corresponding Baud rates: 0 = V.17 14400;  2 = V.17 9600;  6 = V.29 9600;  10 = V.27 2400.
